I applaud the Government's plan to finally upgrade the Brunei International Airport to meet international standards.
This could have been thought of way back especially when Brunei chose to make itself a hub for trade and tourism a few years ago.
I notice that it has gone through a bit of transformation already, visually as is the normal standard here in Brunei, as seen from its Departure area and inside.
However it still lacks the required important amenities for travellers.
This renovation does not really reflect Brunei as a whole, rather, it looks confused with no real identity or theme.
I have to say the airport looks more of a commercial building rather than an airport, with all the booths.
All that does not really help travellers or tourist in the very sense.
I hope when they actually decide to act on this that the relevant authorities really study the final proposal in order to avoid costly mistake such as the non-functional Gate 6 which apparently is 'cause used apart as a miscellaneous holding area it Pause the aerobridge or the ate, as a whole was built too near the other aerobridges thus making it unusable. This itself shows the ineffective planning that was done then which ought to be avoided the first time round.
Was nobody doing their job then?
On the same note, upgrading is good but without proper routine in maintenance then all would be for naught in a short time if everything starts falling apart.
I hope the relevant authorities would take the necessary steps to make sure it is done right this time around so that we can have an international airport that we can be proud of.
